The Holy Sacraments

The Holy Sacraments

In the Episcopal Church, we understand the Holy Sacraments to be outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as sure and certain means for receiving God’s grace.

Baptism and Eucharist are the two "Great Sacraments" given by Christ to his church. We also recognize five other sacramental rites that have evolved in the church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit: Confirmation, Ordination, Holy Matrimony, Reconciliation, and Unction (the anointing of the sick or dying with oil).
