St. Francis is a member of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey and a member of the wider Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church is headquartered in New York City and comprises 108 dioceses and three mission areas in 22 countries or territories. We are not a national church—we are a multinational denomination with more than 1.4 million members! Historically, the Episcopal Church is a denominational descendant of the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church but in current times we three are strong partners in spreading the Good News.
We are the only U.S.-based member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The Anglican Communion is the gathering of Anglican and Episcopal churches from around the world. Today, the Anglican Communion comprises more than 80 million members in 44 regional and national member churches in more than 160 countries.
The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ. The mission of the Episcopal Church, as stated in the Book of Common Prayer, is “to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.” In step with that mission, The Episcopal Church follows Jesus into loving, liberating, and life-giving relationships with God, with each other, and with the earth. We are the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement!
