Our St. Francis Family

St. Francis Church, at its core, is a house of worship. People come together every week to give God praise and thanks as we celebrate the Eucharist - the principal act of Christian worship. We do this as a faith community that rejoices in the love and grace of God - the same love and grace that we find in each other and in our communal life as a parish. You will hear many members here at St. Francis refer to the church as their "spiritual home".

We all know, however, that a house is not a home without love. At St. Francis, you will find a lot of love: love from and towards God and love from and within the parish. Love is so essential to who we are that it is the strongest fiber in our congregational DNA. It transforms St. Francis from “just a congregation”

into a thriving church “family”.

We’re different in that we don’t shy away from, but instead encourage, emotional connections to others. We revel in our diversity – not just in race and gender, but also in thinking and feeling. Additionally, we believe that our individual differences are just as important as our commonalities, and we share true and genuine care and concern for the wellbeing of all.

God’s love undoubtedly ties us all together, and it is our response to this love that creates relationship and connectedness amongst the congregation. God's love binds us together so tightly that a family is born.

We welcome you to join us and experience the St. Francis family for yourself!

In the Community

Loving our Neighbor

Jesus tells us “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” And so begins Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan.

At St. Francis, loving our neighbor is an integral part of who we are. And “who is our neighbor?”, you may ask. By geography, we are linked to the communities of Dunellen, Piscataway, Middlesex, & the Plainfields. In spirit, we are connected to the greater Episcopal Church (the Diocese of NJ, the Worldwide Anglican Communion) and to our siblings in need wherever they may be (e.g. Haiti and California wildfire victims).

St. Francis maintains a robust Outreach Ministry and an active Committee on Member Evangelism (COME).

You will find us physically, spiritually, and monetarily connected to our neighboring communities in numerous and various ways:

·      Nonperishable food donations to the Dunellen Library Food Pantry, as well as providing snacks for the library’s kids programs

·      Monetary donations to Dunellen’s First Responders and PBA

·      Adoption and care of downtown Dunellen flower boxes

·      Participation in Dunellen Harvest Festival, Piscataway Street Fair, and the Dunellen town-wide yard sale

·      Collecting coats/jackets, pet food, books, personal care items, and toys for distribution by local organizations

·      Blessing of the animals by our clergy

·      In-person assistance at Dunellen Presbyterian Church’s monthly food pantry

·      Food events! The community is invited to our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, among other happenings

At St. Francis, our “church” extends past the four walls of our building – out into our community and the world. And while we do God’s work outside our church walls, we also sing praises and give thanks to God within them.

Come join us for a Sunday service, where everyone is welcome here!
